This tree spreads its seeds by shooting them away from itself, and it may hold the record for best seed-thrower with record shots up to 50 feet from the tree which it was shot from. This tree has fragrant pink flowers and grows about 30 feet high in sun of partial shade. The leaves, flower buds, flowers, and young seedpods are cooked and eaten as vegetable. The flower buds can also be pickled and used in curries. The fine wood is hard and durable and is used in carpentry and fuel. Orchid tree is also cultivated as an ornamental tree.
