These seeds were collected from Sesbania grandiflora, also known as Vegetable Hummingbird, Baby Boots, and Agati. This fast growing tree likes to live in full sun where its red and white blossoms are on display all year around. The flowers are eaten as a vegetable in many places. This flower is considered a delicacy in India where it is dipped in butter, or battered and fried. The white center is bitter and normally removed prior to cooking. Young leaves and pods are also eaten in curries and other dishes. The wood is used in construction the same as bamboo is used. The inner bark is used to make corks, and the pulp is used to make paper. This plant attracts a wide variety of birds, bees, and butterflies. USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 12.
