These seeds were collected from Liriodendron tulipifera, also known as Tulip Poplar, American tulip tree, tulipwood, tuliptree, whitewood, fiddletree, yellow-poplar, and Tulip Tree. This tree likes to live in sun to partial shade where it can grow up to 150 feet tall, but normally max out at about 80 feet. Tennessee, Indiana, and Kentucky all chose this as their state tree. The blossoms are green, orange, and yellow and they open up in the middle of the spring to attract a large number of birds, bees, and butterflies. The roots are used to give a lemon flavor to beer. The bark is used to make a gray dye, and the tree has been used by native Americans to make canoes. This plant is a larval host for the Spicebush Swallowtail butterfly and the Promethea silkmoth, Tuliptree silkmoth, and Phyllocnistis liriodendronella moths. USDA Hardiness Zones 5 to 10.
