These seeds were collected from Lagenaria siceraria, also known as Hard shelled Gourd, bottle gourd, white-flowered gourd, long melon, birdhouse gourd, New Guinea bean, Tasmania bean, and Calabash Corsican. The fruit can be harvested young and eaten as a vegetable or the fruit can be grown to maturity and used to make containers, birdhouses, or musical instruments. Young leaves and shoots can be cooked and eaten as vegetables as well. The seeds can be cooked and eaten or used to obtain an edible oil. The seeds can also be used to make a seed curd similar to tofu. Bottle gourds have been recovered in archeological digs in Japan and China dating back to 9,000B.C. This annual can be grown in all USDA Hardiness Zones.
