This is Aristolochia macrophylla, also known as Broadleafed Birthwort, and Dutchmans Pipe. This plant really is very popular with the birds, bees, and buterflies. This is a climbing vine and will grow 30 feet high if given the structure and allowed to climb; Boy would the butterflies love that. This plant is native to the Eastern United States, and is a must have for any serious North American butterfly garden. All Aristolochia species, except for the Aristolochia gigantea, are larval host plants for the Pipevine Swallowtail, Polydamas Swallowtail, and Mylotes Cattleheart butterflies.
