These seeds are from Carica papaya Kamiya, also known as the Golden Hawaiian Papaya. Delicious! Carica papaya Kamiya is by far the largest and most sought after papaya. The very young leaves, flowers, seeds, and fruits can all be eaten. The fruit has amazing flavor weather it is eaten raw or cooked. It can be dried, preserved, or used to make a wide variety of foods from pies to ice creams. The seeds are used as a spice and have a slight mustard flavor. The immature fruit and the flowers are eaten as vegetables. A very useful latex is extracted from the leaves which have a wide variety of uses from clarifying beer to termite control. It needs a greenhouse or very careful attention. It can not survive a frost. These edible seeds kind of taste like and look like pepper. This is a larval host plant for the Alope sphinx, Obscure sphinx, Ello sphinx, and Lassauxs sphinx moths, and of the Tiger Mimic-Queen butterfly. This plant is also a nectar source for the Stallings Flat, and Fritzgaertners Flat butterflies. USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 12.
