This is Ugni molinae, also known as Chilean Guava, murta, Ugniberry, Tazziberry, and Strawberry Myrtle. Growing to a maximum height of about 8 feet this plant likes to live in full sun, partial shade, or light shade. If you crush the leaves they have a spicy scent which is probably the reason that the leaves can be dried and used as a tea substitute. The seeds can also be roasted and used as a coffee substitute. The fruit itself is slightly sweet and very delicious which is not a big surprise because this plant is in the guava family. The shrub itself is quite attractive and is used for privacy in many places. It is also grown as an ornamental plant because of its attractive drooping pink flowers. This was Queen Victorias favorite fruit. USDA Hardiness Zones 8 to 11
