This is Clematis vitalba, also known as Travellers Joy, Devils Darning Needles, Devils Hair, Love Vine, Virgins Bower, Virginia Virgins Bower, Wild Hops, Woodbine, and Old Mans Beard. This interesting climber is a shrub. The main reason I am selling this plant is because it is a favorite of several types of bees. This is a documented nectar plantfor the Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, and Silver-washed Fritillary butterflies. This is the Larval host plant for the Mottled Beauty and Lime-speck Pug, Small Emerald, Small Waved Umber, and Haworths Pug moths. During the stone age this plant was used to make rope in Switzerland, and it was used to weave baskets and bind crops in Slovenia. Clematis vitalba likes to live in the full son but can handle some light shade if necessary. USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9
