This is Phoenix sylvestris, also known as Wild Date Palm, silver date palm, Indian date, sugar date palm, and India Date Palm. This palm likes to grow in full sun where it can get over 40 feet tall. From late Spring until early summer this palm has cream or tan blossoms. The sap of this tree can be used as a source of sugar. This sugar can then be cooked down into a syrup or used to make alcohol. The flowers on this tree, and other palms, serve as a larval host for the Palm Flower Moth. USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 11.
