This is Hibiscus coccineus, also known as Swamp Hibiscus, Scarlet Rose Mallow, Texas Star, and Scarlet Hibiscus. Growing up to 12 feet tall this plant likes to live in sun to partial shade. From the middle of Summer to early Fall this plant has scarlet blossoms. This plant attracts birds, bees, and butterflies. Hibiscus plants in general are a nectar source for the Cloudless Sulphur, Orbed Sulphur, Disguised Scrub-Hairstreak, Yojoa Scrub-Hairstreak, Dukes Skipper, Large Orange Sulphur, White Angled-Sulphur, Yellow Angled-Sulphur, and Monk butterflies, and larval hosts for the Bumelia Webworm and Pearly Wood-nymph moths, and the Cloudless Sulphur butterfly.
