This is Arisaema triphyllum, also known as bog onion, brown dragon, Indian turnip, American wake robin, and wild turnip. The roots must be cooked or thoroughly dried before being eaten. Calcium oxalate crystals give the horribly unpleasant feeling of needles being stuck into your mouth and tongue. Maybe this is the reason that this plant is so extremely deer resistant. USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9.
