This is Phormium tenax Yellow Wave, also known as New Zealand Flax. This chartreuse and yellow striped grass draws a great deal of attention from the birds, bees, and butterflies. This flax likes to live in the full sun where it produces tan-cream blossoms from late Spring until early Fall. The seeds from this plant can be roasted and used as a substitute for coffee, while the nectar can be eaten. The base of the leaves can be harvested and used as a chewing gum.
